Robo-advisors are taking share from human advisors, and people are ditching traditional money managers in favor of passive index investing. It begs the question – why even have a financial advisor anymore? Well, the reality is that while these new innovations certainly do have a place in the investment world, a qualified investment advisor still serves a critical role. In fact, with all the changes occurring in the world, we would argue that it has never been more important to work with a future-ready advisor than right now.

Choosing Your Financial Advisor – A Different Perspective About What’s Important! (Part 1 of 2)

When searching for a new financial advisor, the traditional method is simply to ask a friend who they use and take their recommendation. You could also do a Google search and systematically work your way down the list with subsequent screenings, phone calls and interviews. Further, you could even peruse journals such as Boston Magazine that rate the “Top Local Financial Advisors” or Barrons that lists the nation’s “Top Stockbrokers” – and hope that one of those “Superstars” will give you a minute of their time. Finally, you can respond to the invitation that falls out of your morning paper inviting you to attend an “educational” seminar at the local Holiday Inn.

Team News: Ethan Brown Obtains CFA Charter; Anne Lee Joins Cox Capital Management

Cox Capital is pleased to report good news on two fronts: Portfolio Manager Ethan Brown has recently obtained his CFA Charter, and Anne Lee has joined the Cox Capital team as the firm’s new Office Manager.

Ethan joined Cox Capital in 2015 as a research analyst after obtaining his MBA from UMass Lowell. He began working toward his CFA charter in 2016, and passed all three levels of the exam in each subsequent year. Over this time, he accumulated the required work experience, and the CFA Institute approved his charter as of January 2019. “We are thrilled to have a CFA Charterholder on our staff,” said Cox Capital Management founder Bill Cox. “It demonstrates our commitment to building a qualified portfolio management team and highlights the strong research-driven culture of our firm.”
